Who runs this site

TranceHQ is run by an individual based in the UK, not a registered company. For anything in this policy, or to ask about your data, email [email protected].

What we collect

If you never create an account, we don't collect anything that identifies you personally, browsing the catalogue, charts, artist and label pages doesn't require any personal data.

If you create a free account, we store the username, email address and password you give us. Your password is never stored as plain text, it's hashed (PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256, with a unique random salt per account) before it ever touches the database, so we can't see or recover your actual password. We also store whatever you choose to save: favourited tracks, releases, artists, labels, sets and events, and any artists or labels you follow. Your username and email address can be seen by the small TranceHQ admin team, who use them only to run the site (for example to answer a message or sort out an account problem).

Cookies

We use these cookies:

• A login session cookie, if you're signed in, this just keeps you logged in between pages, and is deleted when you log out.
• A first-visit attribution cookie, which remembers which link or search first brought you here (e.g. a social post) so we can see, in aggregate, roughly how people find the site. It never leaves our own server, isn't shared with anyone, and isn't tied to any advertising network.
• A cookie choice cookie, which remembers whether you tapped Accept or No on our cookie bar, so we don't keep asking.

If you tap Accept on the cookie bar, we also use Microsoft Clarity to see which pages and buttons people use, so we can make the site better. It records clicks and scrolling, form fields are masked, and it is never used for ads. If you tap No, it never loads.

We don't use any advertising cookies, and we never sell your data.

Emails

We email you to log in, reset your password, and to welcome you when you join. We only send update emails (new features and the like) if you ticked the box to say yes, when you signed up or in Account settings. Every update email has a one-tap unsubscribe link, and you can switch them off in Account settings at any time.

Services we rely on to run the site

Some of what you see is drawn from other services, to build the catalogue and let you play previews:

• Discogs and MusicBrainz, catalogue data (releases, artists, labels).
• Spotify, cover art and track matching, via Spotify's own API.
• Beatport, chart and release information, shown for reference.
• YouTube, embedded video playback for sets and mixes, via YouTube's privacy-enhanced (youtube-nocookie.com) embed player.

None of your personal account details (email, password, saved items) are ever sent to any of these services, they're only used to fetch public catalogue information and to embed video playback. The site is reached through Cloudflare, which protects it and speeds it up, and emails are sent through an email delivery service; both only see what they need to do that job. See the footer on any page for the full attribution and trademark notices for these services.

How long we keep it

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. If you'd like your account and everything attached to it deleted, use Delete my account in Account settings, or email us at the address above and we'll remove it for you.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to see what data we hold on you, correct anything that's wrong, or delete your account entirely. Email [email protected] and we'll sort it out. If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Children

TranceHQ isn't intended for children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
